Annual elections for the chapter steering committee are approaching, and working as a chapter officer is a great opportunity to get more involved with the chapter and organizing for socialism.
At January 26th’s general meeting, members will pick a nominating committee to oversee candidate nominations for the two chapter co-chairs, treasurer, secretary, and three at-large members. The chapter selects a three-person nominations committee a month prior to voting. The nomination committee solicits and receives nominations to present to the membership for a vote.
The 3-person nominations committee will take in applications, confirm that nominees are members in good standing, and collate the nominees’ responses into a candidate packet, which will be released to the general membership.
The steering committee oversees the chapter’s general affairs and helps implement membership decisions. The steering committee is the executive body of the local chapter, and thus subordinate to its legislative body, the general members meeting. Committee member terms run from February to January.
Interested members may nominate themselves. Steering committee members must be in good standing with DSA national throughout their term.
